White River chickens spread their wings nationally
The generosity of the artists, sponsors and community is the cornerstone of this fundraiser, with Hands at Work as this year's beneficiary.
There is time to bid online for the artwork of this year’s Chicken Challenge until September 15.
An exhibition of this year’s chickens has opened at the White River Gallery at Casterbridge Lifestyle Centre on Saturday. Artist and founder Reinette Fourie and team have transformed the gallery into a battery of breathtaking birds to be admired by all.
Some of the artworks were also sold during an auction on Saturday.
Local and national crafters have been buying more and more into this project since its inception in 2014, when Fourie, artist Karin Daymond and Marlize Meyer launched the initiative.
The names on the artworks read like a who’s who of the local and national art scene, while the chickens themselves can decorate even the most discerning home or art collection. The generosity of the artists, sponsors and community is the cornerstone of this fundraiser, with Hands at Work as this year’s beneficiary.
Hands at Work is a non-profit organisation working across several African countries and in more than 60 communities.

Hands at Work mobilises and equips
local men and women in these communities to care for the most vulnerable children around them.
