SPCA sends out urgent pleas as food reaches dire levels

Things are not looking good for the Nelspruit SPCA.

According to the organisation’s vice-chairman, Ludi Botha, their overall food supply is at a very low 30 per cent. The adoptions are still low and locals are encouraged to adopt, not shop.

The food supply for their feral cat project is at zero per cent and assistance for this is desperately needed.

“Our monthly donations have taken a knock. We are struggeling to pay our running expenses. We appeal to the community and businesses for donations,” Botha said.

The SPCA is the only animal welfare organisation governed by law, according to the SPCA Act no 169 of 1993.

It believes that every living creature has intrinsic value and is a sentient being. As people uniquely have the ability of moral values, the organisation believes that it is responsible for the welfare of the animals that humans have domesticated and those upon whose natural environment they encroach.

The SPCA recognises that animals are in the service of humans, but that does not give people the right to exploit them or treat them inhumanely. To support the SPCA, phone  or visit 6 Meidlinger Street.
