Bergvlam fans the flames for a fellow Vlammie
The specialised treatment Engelbrecht is receiving at the Netcare Pretoria East Hospital is costing the family upwards of R10 000 per month in travel costs.

MBOMBELA – Hoërskool Bergvlam teachers and administrative staff coloured the school red on Wednesday in an effort to raise awareness for the plight of former student, Orné Engelbrecht.
The 19-year-old was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in March and has had to put her dreams of touring the globe on hold while she receives treatment for the disease.
Engelbrecht completed her high school career at Hoërskool Bergvlam last year and the school hopes to raise funds through a civvies day this Friday to ease the financial burden travelling to and from Pretoria is placing on the family.

Mandy Barnard, the school’s public relations officer said, “A group of learners approached the principal, Deon Visser, with the idea to raise at least R10 000 through the civvies day.
“We have 955 learners and 70 staff members at the school and at just R10 per person, we should be able to raise the funds to help fan the flames for a fellow Vlammie.”

According to Barnard, the cancer has returned after having gone in remission and the specialised treatment Engelbrecht is receiving at the Netcare Pretoria East Hospital is costing the family upwards of R10 000 per month in travel costs.
