Bowls tournament a smashing hit

Players won points per skin won and then extra points per game won.

The annual Nornan ladies tournament was held at Bungalows Bowling Club on September 7 and 8.

There were 56 bowlers from Groblersdal, Nelspruit, White River, LVCC, Malelane and Johannesburg. Bungalows Club was also very excited about the presence of Colleen Piketh, an international lawn bowling star and South Africa’s number-one lawn bowler.

In 2014 Piketh won a Commonwealth Games women’s doubles gold medal as well as a single bronze medal in Scotland. In 2018 she won a silver medal in the pairs final and a bronze medal in singles in Australia.

The format of the game was four games of 12 ends and one game of 15 ends over the two days.

Players won points per skin won and then extra points per game won. After round two they played a spider, and all the spider money will be given to the Hazyview animal clinic. The spider was won by Colleen Piketh.

Two hampers were up for grabs. Four lucky draws were drawn and Elsa Wasserman, Colleen Piketh, Marina Smith and Michelle van der Westhuizen won Flight Centre vouchers.

Most touchers were won by Christie Cross from Bungalows.

The best DIY masks team competition was won by Anne Coetzee, Merle Joubert, Christa Koetsier and Mienie Theron.

Toekie Botha, Gillian Beattie, Annemarie van der Ham and Lynette Bubb took first place in the tournament, with second place going to Madaleine de Klerk, Debbie Day, Hermine Ferreira and Elinor Storkey. Colleen Piketh, Ann Dold, Lettie Ambrosius and Brenda Webb ended in third place.

Bungalows thanked all their sponsors: Ada Skea, BUCO Hazyview, Sunette Claassen, Gillian Beattie, Toekie Botha, Spur Hazyview, Karien Greyvenstein, Marion Robertson and all the Bungalows members for contributing to the success of the tournament.
