Man living in a shack for almost 20 years gets a house
"I never imagined myself living in a proper house, having a bed and even electricity"

BLOCK C – Word in Action Ministry, located in Phakama, built a house for Ndolwane Mhlanga (59).
He has been living in a shack that is not conducive for human habitation since 1990. Every day he goes around picking up tree branches to feed people’s goats, so that he can put food on his table.

“A few months back, I was driving to church and saw the house from a distance away. I was touched by such tragedy. I drive this road on a weekly basis and kept on seeing the house, and I couldn’t find inner peace. Last month the Holy Spirit spoke to me, and that’s when I asked my congregants to help to build a proper house for the old man,”
said Past Sunnyboy Lubisi.

On October 25, the project started, and on November 3 the Word in Action Ministry handed over the keys to his new house to Mhlanga. He did not have a bed or warm blankets. The congregation donated blankets, a water tank and groceries, and also assisted him to registering for electricity.

“I never imagined myself living in a proper house, having a bed and even electricity. Life has been rough for me. I tried working a couple of times, but the condition I have doesn’t allow me. I hope that more people with albinism out there will receive the same help. I am glad others see us as normal people and deserving to be treated with honour, and helped without criticism, because we are one. Words will never be enough to thank the community,” said Mhlanga.
