Capt Alfred Moela, spokesperson for Lydenburg SAPS, said the incident took place at night and they pretended to be customers.

The police are looking for three suspects that recently robbed a shop in Extension 6.Capt Alfred Moela, spokesperson for Lydenburg SAPS, said the incident took place at night and they pretended to be customers.
“They were armed and took R3 000 cash. On arrival, one of them approached the owner and pretended to buy something. He then took out a gun and demanded money. The other two appeared and they left with the money,” he said.

Moela said he wants to appeal to shop owners to consider closing their shops before seven at night.
“This applies especially for spaza owners, as they are usually robbed at night. They should also have a burglar door that prevents people from entering the store, and simply give them what they are buying through an open space,” he suggested.

He also added that they are planning to revive a forum where they can communicate with spaza and shop owners. “We need to explain to them the dangers of sleeping in their shops and how it attracts robbers. This is not only dangerous for their safety, it is also unhealthy.”
