Laerskool Lydenburg athletes smashed three records during the 2020 Interprimary on Saturday at Hoërskool Barberton.
Rojandi Coetzee (12), Sumarie Louwrens (13) and Lee-Ann Lewis (7) made their mark and their performance will be remembered.

Rojandi broke the record when she jumped a height of 1,50 metres in the u/12 girls’ high jump. This athlete gave an outstanding performance and the last record broken was 1,43 metres. She is also a gold-medal winner and participated in the South African Championships last year.

Sumarie broke the record in the u/13 girls’ 200-metre hurdles with a time of 31,91. The previous record was 22,44. She was also named as the best girl athlete in hurdles.

Erno Raath of the school said Rojandi and Sumarie will be participating in the Bohlabela District athletics meet on Monday. “If they qualify during this event they will proceed to the Mpumalanga Championship in Secunda on March 14,” he said.

Lee-Ann proved that she is an athlete to look out for in the future when she broke a record by completing the 60-metre race in 10,11.Raath said Lee-Ann will not be able to participate in the provincials due to her age.
These athletes are not the only ones who participated, although they stood out.
Elsabe de Klerk (u/11) was awarded the best senior girl field athlete and was also the best female shot put athlete.
