South Africa records 2 684 new infections, however, active cases still decrease
As on August 26, a total of 2 684 new cases have been confirmed and a total number of 3 598 973 tests have been conducted nationwide to date.

According to Health Minister, Dr Zweli Mkhize, 194 more Covid-19 related deaths were recorded of which 57 were recorded in KwaZulu-Natal, 61 in Gauteng, four in the Northern Cape, 12 in the Eastern Cape and 60 in the Western Cape. This brings the total of deaths countrywide to 13 502.
Mkhize also reported that the country’s recoveries now stand at 525 242, which translates to a recovery rate of 85%.
Currently, there are still 76 907 active cases. Gauteng accounts for 33,8% of all cases, while KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape follow with 18% and 17,2% of cases respectively. The Eastern Cape accounts for 14% of cases and the Free State accounts for 5,7%. Limpopo, Mpumalanga, North West and Northern Cape account for fewer than 5% of all cases. In total, more than 3,5 million tests have been conducted, 20 137 of which in the previous 24 hours.
