Community Can Challenge completes 16th food drop-off

As the fight against hunger continues, so do the efforts to aid the surrounding communities of Mbombela.

The Community Can Challenge recently set out on its 16th food drop-off to the Nikelani Drop-in Centre in KaNyamazane.

Joining in on the effort was Michelle Verster, a Mrs Mpumalanga Finalist for 2021.

The organisation said it has been working hard behind the scenes to source funding to maintain and grow the fight against hunger.

“Even before Covid-19, our communities were battling with poverty. The pandemic and the strict lockdown in South Africa only made us more aware of the true struggles of our people.

“Thank you to Stoller South Africa and The Rest Nature Estate for the continuous support, ensuring that we can continue help those in need.

“We also want to thank TwoRedPens Agency for the video production and edits,” it said.

The Community Can Challenge started out as a challenge to collect the same amount of cans of non-perishable food, as the kilometres run by Morné Green, one of the men behind the initiative, during a lockdown run completed on his balcony.

The target is 49 902 and the organisation is currently on 49 283.
