PCA rides on to Vryburg and Upington
It has been almost two weeks since the Pediatric Care Africa (PCA) team had left for the Ride for a Child charity event to raise funds for children in need of medical care.
The team has already visited several towns during their 6 967-kilometre ride around South Africa, meeting fellow bikers and excited community members all supporting PCA and its cause.
PCA founder and CEO, Dr André Hattingh and a small team of riders left White River Square on February 14, their first stop being the Beitbridge Border to Zimbabwe.
PCA’s goal is to fund around 70 surgeries for children across the country who need it most.

Last Wednesday, the Ride for a Child team arrived in Vryburg from Lichtenburg and were accompanied by 16 bikers who escorted the team all the way to Stella where the Speed Hogs MC were waiting to greet them in their numbers.
Then it was off to Upington, and the team arrived at the next stop on Friday. Hattingh said the bikers received “a hero’s welcome at the Kalahari Mall and Woolworths Kalahari Mall in Upington on Friday morning”.
“Having ridden over 2 000 kilometres already, Upington was our first rest stop, where we could have our clothing washed, motorbikes repaired and just have an off day from riding to rest our sore muscles a bit,” said Hattingh.

“Upington is my personal favourite stop on our long route around South Africa, as the people here are very special.”
He said a local Upington biking club, Wild Bulls MC, held an auction at their clubhouse and raised R8 000 for Ride for a Child.
Hattingh added that the team visited the Jogébed Child and Youth Care Centre in Upington.
“For our visit (to the children’s home), Woolworths Kalahari Mall supplied us with back-to-school parcels for every single child in the orphanage, and on top of that a individual parcel containing sweets, chocolates and all nice things kids dream of.”
