Malelane’s Combrink wins Mpumalanga Classic
Lydenburg Golf Club hosted the Mpumalanga Classic Stroke Play Championships over the past weekend.
Golfers from across the province took part in the two-day tournament on Saturday 5 and Sunday February 6. The winner was Janneman Combrink (Malelane Golf Club) on +10 (226 strokes). Christiaan de Beer (Middelburg Country Club) and Thami Ngobeni (Kambaku Golf Club) were tied for second place on +15 (230 strokes).

Dino Thobela of Kambaku Golf Club finished seventh place on +24 (240 strokes). Jaco Coetser (236 strokes), Jacques Brits (238 strokes) and Christiaan Willemse (243 strokes) from the Lydenburg Golf Club also finished in the top 12. This was the first time the Mpumalanga Classic took part. It is a new league hosted by the Mpumalanga Golf Union.

It is held at smaller clubs with nine-hole courses to give players more experience to qualify for the Mpumalanga team. Just the top 36 players qualify after Saturday to play on Sunday. Golfers are reminded that the Lydenburg Open will take place on Saturday March 5 and the Lydenburg Club Championships will take place on March 12 and 13.
