Eleven alleged ATM bombers in custody at Mecklenburg

Their cases were postponed to July 20 for further investigation.

Eleven suspects linked with ATM bombings in Limpopo appeared in the Mecklenburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Kenneth Ntsoane, Mpho Racheku, Hendrick Mabe, Thabang Kgakagadi, Sekgotho Tlali, Dankie Lekgowa, Lebereko Lehasa, Thuso Motseki, Thabo Mogutle, Molatudi Ramotshela and Tebogo Kgahloe, aged between 25 and 47 years, were denied bail.

Their cases were postponed to July 20 for further investigation

The suspects face charges of robbery with aggravating circumstances, malicious damage to property, the contravention of the Explosives Act and the contravention of the Illegal Immigration Act.

This after they were positively linked to 10 cases relating to ATM bombings in Sekhukhune, Mopani and Capricorn districts.

“During their arrest in Randfontein, Gauteng, on May 18, police confiscated dye-stained bank notes, explosives, three firearms, 18 live rounds of ammunition and two motor vehicles,” confirmed Limpopo SAPS’s spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba.

Police investigations are continuing.
