Pedestrian killed in Mbombela

The body of a man was found lying in the middle of the Old Pretoria Road. It is believed he had been hit by a vehicle.

A man was believed to have been hit by a vehicle after his body was found lying in the middle of Old Pretoria Road early on Saturday morning, July 1.

A Nelspruit Police Station spokesperson, Constable Bongani Mokoena, said the man has since been identified as 29-year-old Lesufi Mpho, a member of the South African National Defence Force.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said paramedics were called out just before 07:00. “Medics assessed the man and found that he had already succumbed to his numerous injuries. Nothing could be done for him and he was declared dead.”

Meiring said the vehicle that had hit the man was not on the scene.

Mokoena said the incident had been reported and a suspect has been identified. He said the investigation is ongoing.
