Boschfontein minor allegedly stabs and kills learner
An expelled learner is alleged to have stabbed and killed another learner near a school in Boschfontein. The young suspect had reportedly been expelled from the school last.
A 20-year-old Grade 10 learner of Mbambiso High School was stabbed to death on Tuesday afternoon, November 14, allegedly by a 17-year-old who had been expelled from the school last year.
According to a statement by a provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, it was after school at about 14:30 when the former learner attacked the 20-year-old just a stone’s throw away from the schoolgrounds.
“When the police attended the scene, the deceased was found in the pool of blood with a stab wound to the chest,” said Mohlala. He said the knife believed to be the murder weapon was found next to the body.

Though the suspect fled the scene, he was later handed over to the police by his parents, and a probation officer was called in to do an assessment. The boy was released into his parents’ custody, as he is a minor.
“The circumstances that led to the brutal murder are unknown at the moment, but the investigation continues,” said Mohlala.
The provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Manamela, made a call to all parents to monitor their children’s movements and behaviour, and seek professional intervention if a situation gets out of hand.
“We really prioritise school safety, therefore school safety campaigns are conducted on a regular basis with the specific focus on bullying. We cannot be at every school at all times, but parents’ involvement can play a major role in ensuring the safety of both learners and teachers at schools,” she said.
