Suspect arrested in Bushbuckridge for rape

A man was arrested and is expected to appear in the Bushbuckridge Magistrate’s Court after he allegedly raped a woman in the Violet Bank area.

A 51-year-old man was expected to appear in the Bushbuckridge Magistrate’s Court today, December 4, after he had allegedly raped a woman (31) in the early hours of Friday morning, December 1.

According to a provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, it was reported that the woman was on her way home from a tavern in Violet Bank, Bushbuckridge, in the early hours of Friday morning.

She had reportedly been walking along the R40 when the suspect allegedly came up behind her, grabbed her, forced her into nearby bushes and raped her.

Mohlala said that once the suspect released the victim, she saw a Toyota Quantum passing by and called for help. He said the driver immediately stopped, climbed out and chased down the suspect, catching him and taking him to the police station.

The 51-year-old arrested and charged with rape. The outcome of his court appearance was not known by the time of publishing.
