Three men rescued from mob justice in Mbombela

No case has been opened against the group who assaulted three homeless men. They are currently recovering in hospital.

Three homeless men were rescued by the police from mob justice after they were attacked by members of the public in Mbombela.

The incident occurred on Wednesday January 17, at about 12:00 behind The Square shopping centre.

A provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli, confirmed that the SAPS was called in to rescue the three men, however, upon their arrival, the men were already injured and paramedics were summoned to the scene.

The victims were treated there before being transported to Rob Ferreira Hospital for further medical treatment.

“At the moment, we cannot give full details on what happened until an official case is opened. The police did respond and will wait for them to open a case, and then take it from there. I also cannot comment on what transpired there,” he said.

The victims were not available for a comment by the time of publishing.

The trio are currently recovering in hospital.
