Accident on N4 close to Mbombela claims one life

The driver of a Polo sedan died on the scene and the truck driver was not injured. The road has since been reopened for traffic.

A driver of a Polo sedan died in a head-on collision with an articulated truck on the N4 between Valencia and the KMI Airport turn-off on Tuesday afternoon, February 20.

According to the spokesperson for Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Moeti Mmusi, the driver of the Polo was declared dead on the scene by paramedics. The truck driver was unharmed,” he said

Moeti added that emergency personnel and law enforcement officers have cleared the scene.

He also said the Polo was heading towards Malalane while the truck was driving towards Mbombela. It is still unclear what caused the accident.

The road is open for traffic.
