Laerskool Ohrigstad hosts netball and rugby games

Entertainment was galore as the players participated in both netball and rugby.

The sports fields of Laerskool Ohrigstad were a hive of activity on April 29 when aspiring young netball and rugby players gathered to learn the finer tricks of these two sport codes.

It was the first time some of them had officially engaged in a competitive match. The parents and educators were there to give them a hug after a hard knock.

“The purpose of a sports day is to give the players the necessary exposure to matches. It also promotes good sportsmanship and cultivates a love of netball and rugby among the children,” said Laerskool Ohrigstad’s Elizma Steyn.

The participating schools included the host, Steelpoort Academy and Laerskool Graskop. Watching the games were Hoërskool Lydenburg’s first rugby team. After the games, they held a practice session at the Ohrigstad sports fields.

“It was a wonderful day, and it’s nice to see the children are not playing for trophies, but simply to enjoy the sports.”
The host school thanked the community members, sponsors and the visitors for making the sports day a success.
