Three people injured in accident in Mbombela

A preliminary investigation indicated the accident was a side-on-side collision between the two vehicles.

Three people were injured in an accident that involved a light delivery vehicle (LDV) and a SUV on the R40 near Westend SPAR in Mbombela. The accident occurred today, May 16, at about 18:30.

The spokesperson for the Department of Community Safety, Security, and Liaison, Moeti Mmusi, said drivers of both vehicles, and the passenger that was in the LDV, were injured. They were treated on the scene before being rushed to a hospital for further medical care.

“At the moment, we are not sure what caused the accident, but a preliminary investigation indicates that it was a side-on-side collision between the two vehicles. We will launch an investigation to find out what happened,” he said.

Mmusi said emergency personnel and traffic officers are currently on the scene to control traffic and clear the scene. The road is open, however, motorists are advised to drive with caution as they approach the area.
