Summerhill Prep wins medals at Eskom Science Expo in Sabie

Summerhill Prep School brought home six medals, and two of its learners qualified for the second round of the expo.

For the first time, Summerhill Prep School participated in the Eskom Science Expo held in Sabie on July 27.

The school was represented by eight learners. They did very well and managed to bag six medals, which is a great achievement, especially since it was the first time the school had entered the competition.

Out of the 200 pupils from the Bohlabela District, Lebogang Mosehla and Kea Moshesh each won a gold medal. Kimberly Mnisi, Kwame Rushwaya and Leo Barr won silver for their projects, and Blessing Maenetja won a bronze medal.

The school principal, Cheryl Calmeyer, said they are very proud of how the learners had performed, even though it was their first time.

“On behalf of the entire school, we would like to thank everyone who was involved in the competition, especially the learners, because they were the ones who were doing the initial presentations. We are hoping that in the next round they will bring more medals for us, but our main aim is to win the competition, because I believe we deserve it,” she said.

The gold medallists will go to the next round of the expo, which will be announced soon.
