ELECTRICITY UPDATE: Some areas of Mbombela still without power after 24 hours

The power outages were caused by a high-voltage cable being damaged by a contractor in Steiltes. The CoM is currently busy with repairs and asks that residents be patient as they work on restoring the power.

The City of Mbombela’s (CoM) workers are still busy with repairs to restore electricity to Bateleur and Shandon estates, as well as parts of Steiltes, today, September 3. The area has now been without power for more than 24 hours.

The CoM’s spokesperson, Joseph Ngala, said the electricity outages in some parts of Mbombela were the result of a cable fault. Valencia, Orchards, KaMagugu, Nelsville and Steiltes were affected. They fixed some of the issues yesterday and restored electricity. All areas’ electricity supply has since been restored, except for Steiltes.

“Repairs were done to the cable that had been damaged by the contractor in Steiltes. However, we encountered another cable fault close to the Von Braun Street area. We are busy with repairs in that area. For now I cannot give an estimated time on when the power will be restored. We will keep the affected residents updated with our progress,” he said.

Ngala called on residents to be patient with officials while they are busy with the repairs.
