Accident on R40 near White River claims one life, injures one

The paramedics declared one occupant of a sedan dead on the scene of an accident. A truck driver sustained serious injuries and was rushed to hospital.

One person died and another one sustained serious injuries during an accident that involved a sedan and a truck on the R40 outside White River, just after the Pine Lake Inn turn-off today, October 9.

The spokesperson for the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Moeti Mmusi, said one occupant of the sedan was declared dead on the scene, while the truck driver sustained serious injuries. He was stabilised before he was rushed to the nearest hospital for medical treatment.

“It is unclear what caused the accident at this stage, but investigations are under way. Motorists travelling to Hazyview or White River are advised to use the R538, because the road will be closed for recovery purposes,” said Mmusi.
