UPDATE: Murdered Mbombela doctor identified

The doctor was shot and killed in Riverside earlier today, November 20.

A 34-year-old doctor who was fatally shot in the parking lot at Virgin Active Riverside has been identified by her family as Nondumiso Sibanyoni, who was employed at Rob Ferreira Hospital.

Sibanyoni was killed by some unknown assailants earlier today, November 20.

A relative of the deceased, Sydney Nkosi, said no more details will be given as yet, since the police are still investigating the matter.

He said the family has requested privacy while they struggle to absorb the news of the death of their loved one.

A provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Donald Mdhluli, said the Nelspruit police are investigating the incident. He said the doctor was shot by some unknown persons as she was on her way into the gym.

“The victim parked her car and got out. As she was walking towards the gym, a Toyota Starlet drove towards her. One of the assailants got out of the vehicle and shot the woman three times before fleeing the scene. Nothing was stolen from her.”

ER24 paramedics declared Sibanyoni dead on the scene.

The police ask anyone with information to report it to Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or to use the My SAPS app.
