Firefighters battle wildfires at Witklip

The wildfires were said to be caused by lightning last night, December 4.

Firefighters are currently on the ground battling with wildfires near Witklip Dam.

According to André Scheepers, a manager of the Lowveld & Escarpment Fire Protection Association (Lefpa), the wildfire was caused by lightning last night, Wednesday, December 4.

“However, landowners and firefighters are attending to it to ensure it’s contained. Current heatwave conditions aren’t helping them extinguishing it,” he said.

Scheepers also said Lefpa recommends no open fires until the region has received substantial rain. Any wildfires can be reported on 086 066 3473.
