Lebombo Border Post operations to be guided by Mozambican situation, says border management

The port of entry has been closing during the day and is only being operated overnight since last night, November 4.

The Lebombo Border Post continues to operate sporadically as political demonstrations continue in Mozambique.

The border has been operating from 16:00 through the night until 10:00, closing again at 10:00 and opening at about 15:00, since yesterday, December 4.

According to the spokesperson for the Border Management Authority (BMA), Mmemme Mogotsi, the operations at the port are guided by the activities on the Mozambican side.

“The colleagues at Lebombo continue operating, being guided by their Mozambican counterparts on daily operational activities affecting their side.The suspension of operations at Lebombo is done temporarily if we are guided to do so, and they continue when operations in Mozambique resume. We continue to monitor the situation on the Mozambican side, and if there are interruptions, we reassess our operations at the ports,” she said.

Home affairs minister Dr Leon Schreiber is expected to visit the Lebombo Port of Entry on December 11 to oversee the occasion of some drones being deployed there to aid the management efforts. This was according to the BMA commissioner, Dr Mike Masiapato, during his briefing on the BMA’s readiness ahead of the festive season.
