IN PHOTOS: Ehlanzeni District matrics outshine the rest
Hoërskool Nelspruit was named the top school in the province.
The Class of 2024 in the Ehlanzeni District outshone all other districts in Mpumalanga, emerging as the top district in the province during the announcement of the provincial results.
The prestigious provincial results event was held at the Steve Tshwete Banquet Hall in Middelburg on Tuesday, January 15. The MEC of education, Cathy Dlamini, announced the results to all in attendance. The province’s pass rate was 84.99% for the Class of 2024, greatly improving on 2023’s pass rate of 77%.
This means that of the 64 201 candidates who wrote the 2024 National Senior Certificate exams, 54 567 passed. Of the learners that passed, a further 27 885 (43.34%) earned a bachelor pass.
When one takes a look at the provincial districts, Ehlanzeni stands out. With a pass rate of 88.43% (a 6.63% improvement from 2023), it takes the crown as the top district. Gert Sibande follows in second at 87.67%, Nkangala in third at 85.24% and Bohlabela at 78.6%.
Ehlanzeni can also lay claim to the best school in the province, as Hoërskool Nelspruit retained the crown with the Class of 2024. All of the 269 learners in the school’s matric class passed, obtaining a total of 366 distinctions and a bachelor’s pass rate of 89.96%.
Furthermore Curro, Penryn and Uplands all achieved 100% pass rates for their learners’ efforts in the Independent Examinations Board’s (IEB) 2024 examinations. Curro’s bachelor pass rate was 97.59%, Penryn’s was 98.5% and Uplands’s bachelor pass rate was 95%.
Penryn’s top learner, Anna Phillips, was named the top IEB learner in Mpumalanga after she received an IEB outstanding achievement for being inside the top 5% of learners in the country for six or more subjects as well as a rating level of seven in life orientation.
