Hi-Tech Security addresses social media issues with Bergvlam pupils

Shaun Adams shared practical tips for teenagers to follow before making a post.

Hi-Tech Security visited Hoërskool Bergvlam on September 16 to educate the Grades eight, nine and 10 learners how to handle cyber bullying better. The school has in recent months been experiencing a lot of problems with this issue and Shaun Adams, a youth pastor of Church Unlimited, spoke to the learners about it.

Adams mentioned how algorithms work and how easy it was for the learners to become addicted to their phones and fantasise over people’s lives on social media. He reminded them that not every person’s life on social media is always as glamorous as it seems.

He also shared practical tips for teenagers to follow before making a post. The teenagers need to recognise the social dilemma and be mindful about what they post and what implications this could have.

The next talk will be at Laerskool Nelspruit on September 19 about ‘Stranger Danger’ that teaches kids how to be safe in and outside their homes.
