ANC retains FTLM’s Ward 37 in by-elections
ANC's Ngake Ngake Zachariah Motubatse is the new Ward 37 councillor
The people of Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality (FTLM)’s Ward 37 in Mphanama have shown their trust in the ANC. The party retained the seat it won in the 2021 Local Government Elections following the by-elections on Wednesday.
ANC candidate Ngake Zachariah Motubatse ascended the councillorship post at Ward 37 following a convincing 71% win of the party in the by-election.
The vacancy in the ward occurred due to the death of the ward councillor. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2021 Local Government Elections was 46.33% while the turnout was 58% in 2025.

With the ANC recording the 71% win, their closest rivals were the EFF with 13%, the Africa Mayibuye Movement with 6%, the South African Maintenance and Estate Beneficiaries Association with 5%, the Bolshevik Party of South Africa with 2%, the SACP with 1%, and the MK Party with 1%.
“We congratulate our incoming ANC Cllr Ngake Zacharia Motubatse and express heartfelt appreciation to all ANC volunteers and our structures whose tireless work and unity of purpose made this victory possible,” said the ANC in a statement.

“The ANC is deeply humbled by the renewed confidence shown by the people of Ward 37 and remains steadfast in its commitment to continue serving the community with integrity, dedication and action, as we build better communities together.”
