Four suspects, driving a white VW Polo, were fleeing police in a high-speed chase. They got trapped in a cul-de-sac and a shootout ensued. The police were able to arrest them.

One suspect was wounded and taken to hospital in a critical condition, while the other three were taken to the nearest police station.

Juandré Rautenbach, chief of operations at Divergent Ops, confirmed that they helped track the vehicle over the last two days. The vehicle was travelling from Barberton to Mbombela, then White River, before heading along the R37 towards Lydenburg.

“We can’t confirm yet if it is a stolen vehicle,” Rautenbach stated.

He also shared that the same group of suspects were arrested earlier this year, in May, for business armed robbery in Hazyview.

Forensics officers and SAPS are currently at the scene continuing their investigation.
