Lowveld ballerinas dazzle with year-end showcase
The showcase provided a perfect finale to a year of dedication and hard work by the dancers at the centre.
The Lowveld Ballet Centre (LBC) recently wrapped up its year with a dazzling dance showcase, presenting an original production that lit up the civic centre in the city with vibrancy and creativity.
This year’s show, titled Dance of the Imaginings, conveyed a timely message: In a world glowing with screens, imagination has been quietly slipping away. The production invited audiences to look up, breathe out, and step back into the world of wonder, to rediscover the colour, curiosity, and creativity waiting beyond our devices.

Family, friends, and community members filled the civic centre on Friday and Saturday, November 28 and 29, as dancers aged three to 40 brought the storyline to life. From elegant solos to high-energy ensemble pieces, every moment on stage reflected the dancers’ dedication, progress and passion throughout the year.

Studio director Samantha Gonsalves, together with teachers Kina Roux and Jozanne Munnik, shared their pride in the performers. “Our students worked incredibly hard this year, achieving outstanding Dasa exam results and showing remarkable commitment. Seeing them shine on stage made every moment worthwhile,” she said.

Audience members echoed this sentiment, praising the performance with much applause for the dancers’ confidence and stage presence. As the curtains fell, the excitement continued backstage. Dancers left the stage glowing – some celebrating their first-ever performance, others cherishing milestones built over years of training.

The evening stood not only as a celebration of artistic achievement but also as a reminder of the power of the performing arts to bring a community together. “With yet another successful production behind them, the Lowveld Ballet Centre looks towards a new year and is ready to imagine, create, and dream even bigger.”
