IN PHOTOS: First day jitters and joy for Lowveld Grade 1s

Nervous excitement prevailed as Grade Ones across the Lowveld kicked of their first year of 'big school'.

Excitement, nerves and bright smiles filled school gates across the Lowveld this morning, January 14, as Grade One learners attended their first day of formal schooling.

Dressed in neatly pressed uniforms and carrying bags almost as big as themselves, many children took their first steps into a new chapter of learning.

Parents and guardians accompanied their little ones, offering words of encouragement and last-minute hugs before handing them over to welcoming teachers. While some learners embraced a joyful moment of independence, for others, a few tears marked the emotional milestone.

Schools were well prepared, with teachers patiently helping the kids settle into new routines. Colourful classrooms and friendly introductions helped ease anxiety and set a positive tone for the year ahead.
