Municipal work teams are on site at the Ferreira substation replacing stolen cables.

Cable theft at the Ferreira substation has left parts of Mbombela without electricity again on Sunday, January 25.

According to City of Mbombela spokesperson Joseph Ngala, some of the cables feeding one of the substations were stolen.

Affected streets include Lost Trail, Van Wijk Street, Skool Street, Ferreira Street pumps, Waterbok Street and surrounding areas.

“We are working on the repairs. No estimated timeframe for restoration is available at the moment; however, we will keep residents updated. We are also calling on all residents to help safeguard the infrastructure that services them,” he said.

Ngala warned that all cables should be treated as live at all times.
