Criminals often hide poison inside meat products to attract animals. Pet owners should take precautions and check their yards for suspicious food items, which should not be touched with bare hands.

If you suspect your pet has been poisoned, avoid direct contact; some poisons can be absorbed through the skin. Use rubber gloves or plastic on your hands and wrap your pet in a blanket or towel to minimise contact during handling.
