Kruger Park’s Orpen Gate fully operational following short closure

A Kruger National Park entry point was closed briefly due to protest action.

Operations at the Kruger National Park’s (KNP) Orpen Gate were temporarily disrupted on Friday, March 6, due to a protest by Acornhoek residents.

SAPS intervened and was able to clear the entrance.

According to KNP communications manager Rey Thakhuli, there have been no disruptions since.

The protesters are claimants in the ongoing Ngirivane Mathebula land claim case, which relates to land where their forefathers lived and are buried.

They say their protest stems from issues with the claim process, including alleged fraud and a lack of inclusion in opportunities in the park.
