Waterval Boven truck crash leaves 1 dead

N4 road closed between Waterval Boven and Five Arch Bridge due to two trucks involved in an accident.

A head-on collision between two trucks along the N4 near the Waterval Boven Tunnel left one dead and another one was seriously injured today, Saturday, April 25.

The road has been temporarily closed, and motorists are advised to use the Schoemanskloof Road as an alternative.

According to Trac N4 spokesperson Solange Soares, a truck that was traveling in the eastern direction allegedly experienced brake failure.

Soares said this truck had just passed through the tunnel and was travelling towards Five Arch Bridge around midday.

“The driver of truck A lost control, swerved into the westbound direction, and collided head-on with truck B, which was travelling on the westbound slow lane,” said Soares.

“Truck B immediately caught fire and burnt out, along with the first trailer attached to the horse,” added Soares.

She said one of the trucks was allegedly carrying carbon and that the carbon set alight during the accident.

The spokesperson for the Mpumalanga department of safety, security, and liaison, Moeti Mmusi, said investigations into the exact cause of the accident are underway.
