Masondo said the motive for the killing was unknown.
Xibutana, as Nkuna was affectionately known, was a vocal advocate for improved service delivery in his home village of Belfast. Water supply was a key issue he was attempting to address with the BLM.
Masondo appealed to anyone with information that could assist the investigation to contact their nearest police station or call Crime Stop on 08600 10111. He said information can also be submitted anonymously via the MySAPS app.
