Police investigate deaths of two Gauteng teenagers in Sabie
The deaths of two Gauteng teenagers in Sabie have left the St Stithians community in mourning.
The bodies of two teenagers from Gauteng were discovered in a well-known lodge in Sabie on Monday, August 3.
It remains unclear how Grade 11 pupil Cameron Waldeck-Cooks (17) and former pupil Ethan Coetzee (19) died.
The Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo, confirmed the deaths.
“We have opened an inquest docket for investigation. A post-mortem will be conducted to establish the cause of death,” Masondo said.
Waldeck-Cooks was a scholar at St Stithians Girls’ College in Sandton, having joined the school in 2015 as a Grade R learner.
According to a death notice issued by the school, she was an accomplished sportswoman who excelled in rowing and netball.
The college said she would be remembered for her kindness, warmth, and determination.
“She approached life with resilience, quiet strength, and a genuine care for those around her.”
Coetzee was a former pupil at St Stithians Boys’ College, where he started in 2013 as a Grade R learner and completed his matric in 2025.
He was described as a young man of strength, commitment, and humility who represented the college’s first team in rugby.
The guest lodge, of which Lowvelder knows the name, could not be reached for comment.
