• August 29: Ready for the ultimate 4×4 battle? Then come and enjoy the 4×4 Torque Wars and Drag Racing Tournament. Tickets are R500 per competing vehicle, R100 for adults and R50 for young adults. Kids under 13 enter free. Tickets are sold at the gate or on Quicket. The event starts at 08:00 in Barberton (R40/Kaapschehoop turnoff, Waterfall Road).
Markets and festivals
• The Casterbridge Market is open every first Sunday of the month from 09:00 to 13:00 at Casterbridge Lifestyle Centre. This pet-friendly market offers a variety of food, vintage items and arts and crafts.
• The Creative Hub market has moved to Oewersig Community Hall and now takes place on the last Sunday of every month. The market is open from 09:00 to 13:00, and everyone is welcome.
• 28-30 August: Ready for spring? Then the Afri Orchids International Garden Festival is the place for you! Come and enjoy a weekend with friends, family and pets. Tickets are R20 per day and can be bought at the gate. There is free, secure parking, and the gardens are wheelchair-accessible. The venue is located at Portion 173, Farm Alkmaar, Mbombela. • September 18: One of Mbombela’s most stylish and much-loved fundraising events is back. CANSA’s Night of a Thousand Stars returns to Sonpark Boulevard on Friday, 18 September 2026, inviting the Lowveld to enjoy an unforgettable evening of fine food, live entertainment and community spirit, all in support of a worthy cause. This year’s theme is Let’s Twist Again and attendees are encouraged to dress according to the colourful fashion of the 60s and 70s. Tables seat either 10 or 20 guests, making the event ideal for team building, networking or celebrating together. Tickets are R600 per person, with R300 from every ticket going directly to CANSA Lowveld. • 28 August: Chester’s Got Talent is a hilarious, interactive puppet talent show by internationally acclaimed ventriloquist Conrad Koch. At The Capital, audiences will have the chance to judge a chaotic cast of puppets – including fan-favourites Chester Missing and Gunter the German mosquito – as they compete to be the best. There are two shows, one at 20:00 followed by another at 21:30. Tickets are R200 and are available on Quicket.
• September 4-5: Have you ever been through a divorce? Well, the comedian Schalk Bezuidenhout has! With his new show, “Hey Hey Divorcé”, he will be sharing his experience for the first time at The Capital in Mbombela. Tickets start at R250 and can be bought on Quicket. Please note that the show has an age restriction of 16.
• September 5: It’s time to sip, swirl and celebrate at the Unwined Local Food & Wine Show for an afternoon of flavour and fine wine at the Mbombela Golf Club. The event starts at 12:00 and will continue until 17:30. Tickets are R250 and can be bought on the Unwined website. Please note that no under 18s are allowed.
September 13: The annual “Songs of Praise” hosted by Richard Cock is around the corner! With a concert featuring local choirs, talented musicians across Gauteng and a community orchestra, this is not to be missed. The show starts at 15:00 at Hervormde Kerk Nelspruit. Tickets are R120 for adults, R80 for pensioners and children under 12-years-old. Tickets are available at the door and on Quicket.
