I am a horse lover and enthusiast and have been so from birth – I believe!
I started my riding career at the age of three and haven’t missed a year since. I have been a successful competitive rider in Dressage up to Elementary Medium level, show-jumping up to D grade and showing my horses at Open level for over 10 years and have shared amazing partnerships with three horses, all of whom I still own today.
However, my relationship with my horses stretch further than the boundaries of the arena’s in which I ride as I have incredibly strong bonds with all my horses and I believe this has been the reason for our successes in the past. My horses are my true comforts in life and although none of them were bought as fabulous horses, I persevered and brought out the best in each of them as they have done to me.
Behind my timid appearance is a young woman full of life and enthusiasm with a killer sense of humour to tie it all together. I seek adventure in daily life and truly thrive with a challenge at my feet, never letting a difficult circumstance cripple me or hinder my progress.
Aeton is a Thoroughbred bred at the Vaal racetrack and was born on 4 November 2010. Aeton is currently being schooled as a competition horse for showing, dressage, show-jumping and eventing and shows great promise in his disciplines. He is a big, quirky 4-year-old with a vibrant personality to match his size and loves having his bum scratched and quite literally reverses into you and lifts his back leg like a dog if you aren’t paying enough attention to the act (eh hem, no one said stop?).
He is incredibly intelligent and even more inquisitive – nibbling and sniffing everything, including me. For such a big baby he has the heart of a Lion and is as brave as they come. His humorous attitude and playful quirks under saddle are not to be mistaken for an anxious horse, but rather that of a healthy, happy horse, enjoying his tasks to the fullest and showing it!
Aeton and myself share a very special relationship of not only horse and rider, but as of friends, confidants, companions and healers. Although Aeton and I are still establishing our relationship under saddle, we have an incredible bond at eye level – where neither one of us are the master, and I believe this is being transferred to our ridden relationship too. We share a deep understanding of one another, despite only knowing each other for six months – our connection was instantaneous and I miss him like a son when I am away for any time.
I have great faith in his abilities, especially for this ride, despite the non-believers, because I know what he possesses in heart and mind – something astronomical, something profound and unexplainable.
He is not just another horse and I can vouch for this!
