Bazooka blow Saints away
A solitary strike from June Sibiya earned hosts Bazooka XI maximum points over visiting Mbombela Saints in an SAB Castle Regional League encounter at Sincobile multipurpose Sport Centre on Saturday.

Sibiya opened the scoring with the help of Thokozane Mziyako, following a scramble inside the box.
The visitors might have lost the match, but they played the best, especially in the second half after the introduction of Lifa Mdlalose in the place of off-form Mandla “Ace” Mavayela.
Mdlalose took the game to the hosts upon his entry and Saints
became the dominant side, but their dominance, however, failed to yield any goals and the hosts held on for victory.
The visitors gave them a tough time in the second half and had a penalty call ignored by referee Thabo Mkhabela on 68 minutes, when veteran striker Mdlalose tumbled down under the challenge of
Bazooka defender, Khethakuthula Mbendane.
And the hosts’ keeper Sifiso Khoza had to put his reflexes to good use to punch away a header by Samkelo Malambe, with less than 10 minutes left on the clock as the visitors sought an equaliser.
According to their coach, Jabulani Sibiya, Bazooka are preparing
to win the league in the Mpumalanga South African Football Association (Safa) Second Division next season.
Before they can reach that stage, they have to win at regional level, a prospect that Sibiya described as daunting.
Their recent victory gave them hope for the challenge ahead. “Today, we failed to create many chances which could have been dangerous when playing tougher opponents.
My goal and that of the team is not only to win the league, but to
also make it to the Safa Second Division League by winning the play-offs.
“All we need now is to focus on areas where we are weak, such as our
finishes,” said Sibiya.
This coming Sunday, Bazooka will visit Soncoba at KaBokweni.
Elsewhere, Barberton City Stars required a late equaliser against
Apollo XI at Barberton Prison Sportground when both sides played to a 1-all draw.
Sikhalo Mahlalela scored an injury- time goal for Stars after Mpho
Malambe had given the visitors an early lead.
According to Mabobo Mhlanga, Stars spokesman, they will visit Lynville Stars of Emalahleni this coming Saturday.
