Local players make their best moves on the chessboard

Penryn College recently hosted a very successful high schools chess tournament in the community hall.

Teams from 10 schools participated including Lydenburg, Sybrand van Niekerk, Rob Ferreira, Uplands, Acek Academy, Penryn, Hoërskool Nelspruit, Bergvlam, Lowveld High and Curro.

Penryn College’s open team came sixth out of 11 teams; the u/17s came sixth out of seven teams and the u/15s came fourth out of four teams. Sobukwe Ngwenya of the u/15s won the board-six prize.
