Players face stiff competition at Trout Triangle tournament

Bowls players had to draw on all their skills against stiff competition at the annual Trout Triangle Bowls Tournament at Bungalows Bowling Club on August 16. About 42 players of Lydenburg, Sabie, Waterval Boven and Hazyview participated in the three-game event.

A few bowlers started off on a high note but their lucky streak ended within the first few ends. The front ranks had to play even better to help the skips who were playing their hearts out to carry their teams.

During the break, the hosting Bungalows served tea to give teams time to regroup and recharge for the second round. Sabie played did well and was on top of the log at the end of the day, scoring full points.

Potjiekos champion Jannie Janse van Vuuren served a scrumptious potjiekos lunch to the players before their last game.

Players looked forward to the prize-giving, and prizes were sponsored by BUCO Hazyview, Larry Ireland and Darryl Cross. Andy McQueen had the winning raffle ticket and received a great hamper.

Sabie emerged victorious with 52 points and was awarded the overall trout trophy.
