Bungalows get the balls rolling for charity

The Bungalows Bowling Club hosted a Nomads outing on Sunday in aid of a local orphanage. The event was attended by 48 players, who brought food, cutlery and crockery as donations.

The bowlers enjoyed a typical Nomads drink (milk and whiskey) before dividing into teams and heading for the greens. Teams participated in two sessions of 12 ends with a tea break in-between. During the second session bowlers struggled on the heavy greens but managed to keep the balls rolling.

After the competition, Irene Moon of the Maviljan Care Centre thanked the Nomads players for all their donations. The prize-giving followed, with Orange River Cellars as the sponsor.

The prize for the most touchers of the day was awarded to Annette Stassen, while Cas van der Merwe and Annette Stassen won the men and ladies spider respectively. Johan Botha was the lucky winner of the raffle and receive a hamper for his effort.

Nomad Bowls started in East London, in 1980, and is based on the principles of Nomads Golf. It quickly spread throughout South Africa with more than 20 districts currently participating.

A Nomad is played at a different venue each month in order to raise funds for a good cause. According to Nomads principles, donations are never in cash but in goods, products or services, and given to members or groups of the community in need of help.
