Meeting of arch-rivals is set to produce some exciting action

Sparks will fly high and tempers flare up when two arch rivals meet in the preliminary rounds of the Nedbank Cup.

The two hottest teams in the Ehlanzeni district, campaigning in the ABC Motsepe promotional league, the Mbombela United FC and the Nkomazi-based Phiva Young Stars are set to meet on a date and venue yet to be confirmed for a place in the Nedbank Cup last 32.

These two teams made it through to the second round of this competition after winning their games this past weekend.

In the preliminary round, both Mbombela United and Phiva Young Stars were pitted against three other teams and came out tops.

These two have met a number of times and have never disappointed whenever they played each other.

Having already tasted a bit of the Nedbank Cup, Mbombela United would definitely be looking to qualify for the last 32 for the third successive time.

Last year, they were knocked out in the last 32 by Moroka Swallows. Even though they lost the game 4-3 but they totally outplayed the Dube Birds but were just unlucky not to win. Surely, they must have learnt a thing or two from participating on that level.

Phiva Young Stars on the other hand, boast quality and talented experienced players who are a marvel to watch. They will be eyeing their first-ever appearance in the Nedbank Cup, but the road begins here.
