Bowlers keep the balls rolling for charity
Bowlers from all over the Lowveld stepped onto the greens for a Nomad charity game at the White River Bowls Club on Sunday.

Sixteen teams of three players from clubs like Bungalows Bowling Club, LVCC, Lydenburg and Waterval Boven participated in the last game of the year.
Nomads are registered members of bowls clubs drawn together by their love of the game and their desire to help their communities.
Due to the packed calendar, Lowveld Nomads meet only four or five times a year in order to raise funds to help charity organisations or institutions in need.
Nomads do not collect cash but bring along items to their games, which are then donated to a specific cause in the area. On Sunday they were all asked to bring along back-to-school items and the organisers were flooded with calculators, school books and other stationery. Some of these items would be donated to an orphanage in Hazyview, along with the R600 raised in the spider. Christie Cross and Howard Dubery were the winners of the spider.
A total of R3 000 was collected in a raffle, won by Dennis Taiva, and would also be given to a charity in the Lowveld in the form of goods.
Other donations the Nomads have made include toiletries to an old-age home, Ons Tuiste, in Waterval Boven. Lowveld Nomads president Malcolm
Tyerman said the pensioners battled financially and were in great need of basic toiletries like soap, washcloths and lotion.
The Nomads have also gathered many school items like shoes, bags and stationery which will be donated to the children supported by the Nelspruit Community Forum.
Tyerman said the weather was great and the players enjoyed the day. Prizes were handed out for the best players and the winners of the sessions. The overall winners were Ellen Gould (best lead), Arnold Storkey (best second) and Fanie Nel (best skip). Christie Cross won the prize for the best-dressed player, while Marlene Basson had the most touchers of the day.
The next event will take place in February and will be Valentine’s Day themed. Bowlers are welcome to join in and help for a worthy cause. Details will be available at the Bungalows Bowls Club or from the Lowveld Nomads president on mtyerman@vodamail.co.za
