Collins Mbesuma is Mpumalanga Black Aces’ most deadly weapon with his feared left boot banging in goals and creating numerous goal-scoring opportunities this season. This has translated into three stunning goals which have catapulted him to the top of Aces’ goal-scoring table.
This Zambian national has had a well-travelled career in the PSL which has seen him spend time at six PSL clubs as well as
at three oversea clubs.
Mbesuma has worn the colours of some of South Africa’s most respected football clubs such as Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns and Moroka Swallows.
Known as King David and the Hurricane, Mbesuma has racked up an impressive goal-scoring résumé in the PSL with his best season undoubtedly being 2004/5 where he scored a whopping 35 goals for Kaizer Chiefs. This goal-scoring spree resulted in him being crowned as the 2005 PSL player of the year as well as the 2005 PSL top goalscorer of the year.
Mbesuma’s goals against Orlando Pirates and Polokwane City were some of his more memorable strikes as he once again showcased the form that he displayed during his short tenure at Kaizer Chiefs.
His best attributes are his size and eye for a goal which always cause nightmares for defenders in the box. Mbesuma is not typically quick but has the knack to set up goals for his teammates through his sheer power on the ball and his ability not to get easily dispossessed.
He has also starred for his national team with 18 goals in 47 matches for the Chipolopolo, also known as The Copper Bullets. Aces’ fans hope that Mbesuma has some more cracking goals in his chamber
for the rest of the PSL season.
