Flamboyant Tennis Club invites players to come have fun
Join the local tennis club to get fit, hone your tennis skills and have fun with friends.
All tennis players in the area are invited to join the Flamboyant Tennis Club and hone their skills for the many tournaments on the sports calendar next year.
The club is one of the oldest in the area and currently consists of more than 40 members. They recently chose a new committee at the annual Christmas dinner and the men and women in charge of the club are Paddy Illman (chairman), Marius Pieterse (vice-chair), Shirley Illman (secretary), Huffy Pott (treasurer) and additional members John Shaw, Chris Ferreira and Liz Hancke.
To become a member, you need to be able to play a reasonable game of tennis. All ages are welcome and application forms are available from the committee members.
Club members can be seen on the five tennis courts on social days, Wednesdays from 14:00 and Saturdays from 13:30, where they play doubles and mixed doubles. Members who would like to play on other days can purchase a key for the top-two courts and use them available. Social days are usually concluded with members socialising over refreshments from the club’s bar.
Join the club and take the kids out for a few games of tennis during the long December holidays. This is sure to keep them active, out of trouble and fit for all the sporting events in 2015. Coach Henk Heymans, the club’s groundsman, will also be around to give members a few pointers on how to improve.
They host various Round Robin tournaments during the year, with the first one, a Valentine’s Day tournament planned for early February.
To become a member, visit the tennis club (on the same premises as the White River Rugby Club) on social days or contact the chairman on paddyi@mweb.co.za. Like their Facebook page to keep up to date with all the latest tennis events.
