Twilight Bowls is a great opportunity to network on the greens

The competition is held twice a year, and winners are announced, but winning is not what it's about.

Bowling has for long been considered as old man’s sport, or marbles to be more specific, but with fun events like the annual Twilight Bowls, this perception is changing rather swiftly.

For years Du Toit-Smuts and Mathews Phosa has brought this event to the Lowveld Conference Centre (LVCC). The competition is held twice a year, and winners are announced, but winning is not what it’s about. According to Gerrie Swanepoel, one of the organisers, it’s a great opportunity for various businesses to get to know one another outside the working environment.

“During the 11 years this event has been held, Lowvelders have shown tremendous support.”

The main objective is to try and introduce bowling to the public, because it’s not a sport that’s promoted very often. Its specific aim is to attract amateurs to compete against one another. “At every event, first timers bring much entertainment to the LVCC, but the more they play, the more they realise how much fun it is and the better they get.

But we still need more people to join the club. The sport is growing, but it’s not growing fast enough,” says Swanepoel.
