Test your mettle in the rugged countryside
It will be a fantastic opportunity for an expected 100 local riders to stake their claim and let their names be heard before the nationals in February.
An important race to keep an eye on this weekend will be the BestMed 2015 Mpumalanga Cycling Championships which will take place in Badplaas from January 17 to 18.
It will be used as a good measurement of Mpumalanga riders’ skills and qualities ahead of the gruelling South African National Road Championships, which also takes place in the province.
“This race will be run according to the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee’s standards with high-quality racing expected from Mpumalanga’s best road cyclists,” stated Cycling South Africa’s vice-president, Hendrik Wagener.
It will be a fantastic opportunity for an expected 100 local riders to stake their claim and let their names be heard before the nationals in February.
They will be able to compete in
16 categories such as the u/10 boys and girls, up to over 70 veteran men and women and the elite riders in-between.
Registration and line entries will take place in the Rhino Hall at the entrance of Forever Resort Badplaas.
The road race will comprise 82,71km of up- and downslopes and climbs which will test even the most ardent and experienced rider with a total climb of 1 510m.
The time trial will consist of a shorter and faster route of 19,68km with speed being one of the biggest factors that riders
will have to focus on to outwit their opponents.
The annual general meeting of the Cycling Union will take place at 17:00 on Saturday January 17 in the Rhino Hall. The prize-giving will start at 19:00.
Registration takes place at the following times:
• Friday January 16, from 18:00 to 20:00
• Saturday January 17, from 06:00 to 07:00
• Sunday January 18, from 06:00 to 07:00.
