Jung proves he is the best

JP Jung of Team Westvaal Bells Cycling dominated at the first Xcountry series which took place this past weekend at Mankele.

He had a great dice with a cyclist of the Free State, Wayd Needham, but Jung wore him down over the six laps completing the race in 01:05:28. Needham was 76 seconds slower than Jung, taking second place.

With just over 100 participants, the competition was fierce on a dry and hot day with great track conditions. The race of the day was probably when the junior boys Franco Pelser, Liam de Klerk and Martin Oosthuizen battled it out in very close distance from one another. Franco took the honours eventually over a total of five laps in 00:56:59. This category should be an interesting one to keep one’s eye on for the coming season.

A total of 13 cyclists competed in the nipper category and Luan Snyman finished first with more than two minutes in front of runner-up, Chadd Smith in 00:22:01 over two laps.

As for the ladies, Mandie Swart over five laps claimed the first spot for junior female in a time of 01:10:35.

Brett Coates and his team once again organised the race impeccably and the buzz and atmosphere at the start and finish line are up to par with most of the local races.

The next race will take place mid-February at Uplands.
